A Laguna Niguel Bathroom Remodel: Sea-Glass Tile, Brass, and a Wet Room

A look inside a recent bathroom remodel in Laguna Niguel — carved wood vanities, handmade-look tile in sea-glass greens, and a glass-walled wet room with a freestanding tub.

This is a primary bathroom we remodeled in Laguna Niguel, and it's a good example of what happens when a homeowner commits to a real design instead of playing it safe. Here's a walk through the finished space and a few things worth knowing if you're planning a bathroom remodel in Laguna Niguel or anywhere in South Orange County.

The finished space

The room is built around two matching vanity walls. The cabinet doors are carved fretwork in dark wood, the faucets and hardware are brass, and the mirrors have inlay frames that sit against walls of handmade-look tile in sea-glass greens and blues. Underfoot, an arabesque-pattern tile runs the full room.

Behind a glass partition is the part everyone asks about: a wet room with a freestanding tub set against a wall of teal tile. Putting the tub and shower together behind one panel of glass keeps the rest of the room dry and makes the space feel bigger than walls and a door ever would.

The same project carried into the dressing area next door — white paneled built-in wardrobes, amber glass sconces, and oak flooring, so the whole suite reads as one space instead of a bathroom and a hallway that happen to share a wall.

What a project like this involves

A bathroom at this level is not a fixture swap. Behind the tile there is waterproofing that has to be done right the first time, because redoing it means demolition. A wet room in particular lives or dies on the slope of the floor, the drain placement, and the membrane behind the walls. That work is invisible in every photo and it is most of what you are paying a good contractor for.

Tile like this also takes real layout planning. Patterned floors and handmade-look wall tile do not forgive lazy cuts — the pattern has to land cleanly at the corners, the glass, and the transitions, and that gets decided before the first piece goes down.

Remodeling in Laguna Niguel

A lot of Laguna Niguel housing went up in the 1980s and 90s, which means original bathrooms that are ready for this kind of update — and, sometimes, plumbing and electrical that need attention while the walls are open. If your home is in an HOA community, the good news is that interior remodels generally stay out of the architectural committee's lane; it's exterior changes that trigger review. We handle the city permits either way.
